Learning to Let Go

Hi friends, I hope you’re doing well!!

I wanted to start this post with gratitude! Lately, I’ve felt so excited to come on here and share what the Lord is doing in my heart and life. Some of you have reached out to tell me how He’s met you through a post or during your own quiet times. I can’t tell you how encouraging that is.

When I first started writing again, I was filled with some anxiety. It felt super vulnerable and I was worried it could be used against me. But the Lord kept pressing on my heart to keep writing, to be real and honest in my walk with Him. As I leaned into that, I saw Him work deeply in me, and I also watched Him move in you. That’s why your messages mean so much. Thank you for sharing how He’s been at work in your life. What began as a place for my own healing has become a space where I write with expectation for what God might do in others. And that’s only because of what I’ve seen Him do through surrender and vulnerability.

I had to start this post by thanking God and you. This past month has left me in awe of Him. I’m simply so thankful for His healing, His forgiveness, and His faithfulness. As I’ve surrendered my own ideas and plans to Him, I’ve started noticing the ways He moves in my life. Opportunities, relationships, and little blessings have shown up that I wouldn’t have imagined or expected.

Maybe that’s why this theme has been on my heart lately: learning what it really means to walk behind Jesus. When I look back, I realize how often I’ve let my emotions or fears run ahead of Him. I let them dictate the truth. His kindness has reminded me that I was never meant to lead. My place is behind Him.

Lately, I’ve been holding onto this picture of myself as a little girl walking just behind God, my hand tucked safely in His. I can almost feel His hand, bigger, steady, and warm, guiding me with each step. My legs are shorter, so I can’t see the road ahead clearly, and I don’t always understand where we’re going. But His presence is enough. I don’t have to know the way. I just have to trust the One who does.

“The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.” — Psalm 37:23–24

This verse has been both comforting and convicting. Comforting because God never lets go. Convicting because if I’m honest, there are times when I believe the lie that He actually does.

There are moments when my emotions tell me that God has failed me out of punishment or negligence. I find myself wondering: Does He really want what’s best for me? Why does it sometimes feel like He lets things slip through His fingers? Why does it feel like He forgets about me? Those thoughts creep in when my prayers feel unanswered, when I feel loss more than gain, or when the waiting stretches on way longer than I imagined.

And yet, when I step back and really look, I see how false that lie is. The truth is He has never failed me. The things I thought were His failures have often been His mercy and protection. That’s where letting go comes in.

Letting go is one of the hardest lessons of walking with God. It means opening my clenched fists. Whether they’re holding onto dreams, timelines, or even the way I thought life should turn out, letting go is choosing to trust Him more than my own grip. It feels risky. It feels like loss sometimes. But it’s really about making space in my hands for Him to place something new, something better, something good.

“For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” — Isaiah 41:13

I’m seeing this now. He doesn’t tell us not to fear and then stand on the sidelines while we’re tested (which I used to think). He takes our hand and says, “Do not fear,” because He is with us and will help us.

If I hadn’t released certain things, I would have missed out on so much that God had right in front of me. It’s only in the act of letting go that I’ve started to notice what was always there: joy, friendship, love, new beginnings, and beauty in the ordinary.

Of course, I don’t always get it right. I still have moments when I fail and slip up. But even then, I feel a new fire under me. A readiness I didn’t have before. It’s as if God is whispering, “Get up, daughter. Keep walking with Me. There’s more ahead.” Even in weakness, I feel ready to go and to take on life, because of Him.

Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10). That doesn’t just mean someday in eternity. It means here and now. Life with Him isn’t only about waiting for breakthroughs or answered prayers. It’s about seeing today as an opportunity and a gift. Life is waiting for us!

Over ten years ago, I fell three stories through a skylight and broke my back. The Lord miraculously kept me alive, and I walk with no issues today. At the age of fourteen, I learned so early how faithful and trustworthy Jesus is. I also learned how short this life is and how quickly it can change.

A few years ago, I went skydiving, and it was actually so life-changing for me. I think about it when fear tries to creep its way into my life. There was a little anxiety as I climbed to the edge of the plane, ready to jump, leaving basically my whole life in the hands of a stranger. But once I surrendered my fear to Jesus, who was really in charge, I was met with a freedom I can’t put into words. I felt fully alive and inspired. I recently shared with my business class that this experience helped me realize I want to take more risks in life, which led to me wanting to start a business.

The point I want to make is this. God goes before you in everything. The moments you expect Him to, the moments you don’t realize you need Him, the moments you fall, and the moments you jump. He is faithful and kind in all of it.

And I keep coming back to that picture of a little girl holding her Father’s hand. It reminds me that faith isn’t about getting it all right. It’s about staying close to Him, step by step, letting go of what I was never meant to carry.

This week: Walk behind Him

Here’s a practice I’ve been trying: take a quiet moment with Jesus and ask Him what you might still be holding onto too tightly. Picture yourself as His child, safe in His hand, and let that steady your heart. Then simply notice the good things in your life and thank Him for them. Finally, remember one way He has been faithful in the past, and let that give you courage for today.

Verses:
Psalm 37:23–24
“The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand.”

Isaiah 41:13
“For I hold you by your right hand—I, the Lord your God. And I say to you, ‘Don’t be afraid. I am here to help you.’”

John 10:10
“The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.”

Songs:
– Jonathan Helser | “Raise a Hallelujah” & “I Am Your Beloved”
– Pride Of A Father – Hillsong Young & Free
– Morning worship | the Heart of Worship | I Could Sing of Your Love Forever

You don’t have to rush ahead.
You don’t have to have it all figured out.
Just keep walking behind Him.
He holds your hand, and He will never let go.

See you in the next one <3
