Called By Name

Hi friend 🤍

This past month, I’ve just kept coming back to this one quiet truth:
Jesus knows my name. And He still chooses me.

It sounds so simple, but it’s been hitting me in a really personal way.

I’ve been thinking about how often I try to prove that I’m worthy of love.
I try to be good enough, low-maintenance enough, spiritual enough, strong enough.
I downplay how I feel. I try not to need too much.
Because deep down, I’ve believed that if I’m not “easy to love,” people won’t stay.

And honestly, sometimes they don’t.

We’ve all been there. Left, let down, misunderstood.
Maybe someone changed. Maybe we changed.
Maybe it wasn’t anyone’s fault, but it still hurt. And when you’ve been through that enough, it starts to shape the way you think about God too.

But He’s not like us.

Jesus doesn’t leave when we’re struggling.
He doesn’t shut down when we mess up.
He doesn’t see the worst parts of us and second-guess His love.

He sees everything. Every flaw, failure, fear. And still calls us by name.

That’s what has been undoing me lately.

He knows the real me. Not just the version that shows up to church or posts something encouraging.
But the me that overthinks. The me that spirals. The me that still gets stuck in the same old habits.
And even still, He’s not going anywhere.

There have been quiet moments lately where I’ve sat with God and thought, “I don’t know why You haven’t given up on me.” But then I remember Peter.

He was so confident. He told Jesus he would never deny Him, that he’d follow Him anywhere. But when the pressure came, Peter got scared and did the very thing he swore he wouldn’t. He failed. But the part that gets me isn’t just Peter’s mistake, it’s how Jesus responded after.

When Jesus rose from the dead, He didn’t come back to Peter with anger or disappointment. He met him by the water, the same place where their journey had started. They shared a meal together, and Jesus gently gave Peter the chance to say “I love You” three times, one for each time he had denied Him. He didn’t shame Peter. He reminded him of who he was and called him to keep going.

That story has stayed with me. It shows the heart of Jesus. He meets us right in the middle of our mess, not to condemn us, but to restore us. To remind us, just like He reminded Peter, “I didn’t choose you because you’d always get it right. I chose you because you’re Mine.”

Jesus loves us through it all, through every season. And honestly, when I slow down long enough to sit with that truth, it leaves me in awe. The depth of His love isn’t just comforting. It’s overwhelming in the most beautiful way.

Because I don’t have to keep performing or pretending. I don’t have to hold it all together to be loved. Jesus already sees the full picture, and He still stays.

That kind of love changes things.
It quiets the pressure.
It silences the shame.
It reminds me that I don’t have to earn what’s already been given.

So if you’ve been feeling overlooked, or like you have to shrink yourself to be accepted, I hope this reminds you:

Jesus sees you.
He knows your name.
He knows your patterns, your past, your heart, and He still chooses you.
Not out of obligation, but out of love.

He’s not waiting for a more polished version of you to show up.
He’s already here.
And He’s not going anywhere.

This week: Let yourself be known

Take five quiet minutes with the Lord and say,
“Jesus, I want to hear You call me by name again.”
Then listen.
Don’t force it. Don’t overthink.
Just be still and let yourself be loved.

A few verses that are helping me hold onto truth right now:

“I have called you by name. You are Mine.”
— Isaiah 43:1

“The Lord is near to all who call on Him.”
— Psalm 145:18

“Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord will hold me close.”
— Psalm 27:10

“See, I have written your name on the palms of my hands.”
— Isaiah 49:16

Let them play while you rest, drive, clean, cry, pray. Whatever this season looks like for you.
You don’t have to be “better” to be loved.
You just have to be willing to receive it.

He sees you.
He knows your name.
And He’s not going anywhere.

With you,
Meg 🤍

Love you, see you for the August upload!
